May 29, 2020

Dear Friends of South Central Yearly Meeting and Elsewhere,

Please pause for a few minutes to reflect on the life of Mimosa Thomas, a 24-year-old member of the Corpus Christi Meeting who died on April 26 of a life-threatening illness that she had battled for several years. Some of you were fortunate enough to have known her while others are probably unaware of her Quaker leadings and endeavors. To acquaint you more fully with Mimosa, please consult this link (https://www.fcnl.org/updates/remembering-and-grieving-ourfriend-mimosa-thomas-2714).

Join National Day of Mourning Called by Chicago Quakers

Northside Friends Meeting in Chicago IL has called for a day of mourning on May 25, 2020 to acknowledge the grief and loss caused by the pandemic thus far. They also invite us to join them in the visible action at sundown wherever you are, of stepping outside and lighting a candle and holding a moment of silence for what we have lost together. SCYM Friends are encouraged to join Friends and others around the world in this simple action. Read Northside Friends' Call.

On April 27, 2020, SCYM lost a dear young Friend, Mimosa Boone Thomas, member of Coastal Bend Monthly Meeting, Corpus Christi, the meeting in which she grew up. She was 24 and suffered from a debilitating disease but worked with great energy to help all those around her, especially the disadvantaged and undocumented.
